Sister Helga

Early start today as we were to be guests at Sister Helga’s creche in Jo’burg where Aunty Anne looks after a class of lively young children. We stood out as the new kids on the block and quickly became quite popular. ‘Hide and seek’, ‘Chase’ and ‘Statues’ bought us half an hour or so, before we realised we didn’t actually remember many kids games. Luckily school play rehearsals saved us for a while before Rugby, Ballet and ‘Braiding Sophie’s Hair’ took us through to lunch. Somewhat drained we slipped off with cousin Ian to Mandela Square for some well earned lunch.

Lions, tigers and bears… oh my!

We all packed in the car and off to the lion park. First up were the cheaters. They looked awesome striding round their pen so confidently. Then we went to see the cubs where we were allowed in to the pen to give them a cuddle (see pics). Lucky they were sleepy…their paws were huge even for a baby!!! Not sure they would allow that at Regent’s Park zoo. We then fed a giraffe with his HUGE strong tongue slobbering over our hands and watched the baby meerkats. Then we drove in search of lions….we saw some beautiful ones looking very chilled out in the sun. Felt like on a safari but with the safety of the car and large pens. Back to Aunty Anne and Chris for dinner and more red wine.

Watch our Giraffe feeding video.

Jo’burg arrival, family and food

Bags packed and Chris armed with new camera, new bag, new rucksack, new clothes.  Arrived to a very warm welcome (but much less warm weather) in Jo’burg by Chris’ Aunty Anne, cousin Ian and little cousin Kimi.  Arrived at the fabulous house greeted by their 6 dogs…lucky we’re dog lovers! Shown the sights of Jo’burg from the safety of the car with Jared and Ian as our tour guides and then home to a great first night dinner…a braai of big steaks and South African red wine…now this is something to get used too mmmmm

p.s already regretting leaving my hoodie at home…SA is coooold at night!

Departure Lounge Drinks

An impressive early start by Croker, Fish, Toby, Alps, Lewis and Helen kicking the evening off at 6.30pm. Girls on red wine and boys on a combo of beer, whisky and shots. Sooo nice to see sis and PK out for the night like old times! A great effort by all, especially Akiko and Bonnie…Akiko not quite making it home and spending another night at Achilles Rd. Really good to see everyone for one last night  in London for 2010 xxx
